OTHER WINTER SPORTS | SNOWBOARDING

As skiing is one of my favorite pasttimes and sports, this website will have many of the things you need and need to go to have the best skiing experience possible. One this page we will look at the best places to ski in the U.S. and some different types of snow that make skiing so much fun.

According to skiamericanslopes.com the top 11 ski resorts in America are as follows: 1) Aspen, Colorado 2) Heavenly, Lake Taho 3) Deer Vally, Utah 4) Killington, Vermont 5) Mount Snow, Vermont 6) Royal Gorge Cross, Nevada 7) Squaw Valley USA 8) Stowe Mountain, Vermont 9) Vail, Colorado 10) Winter Park, Colorado 11) Cataloochee, North Carolina.

There are four different types of skiing snow that are common knowledge fpr anyone whow spends time out on the slopes. First and best of all is powder, this is the freshly fallen, soft, fluffy and untouched snow which is definately the most fun to ski in. Next is crust which happens when you get powder that has melted a little then refrozen. Crud is hard snow with lots of chunks in it. Slush is when the snow has melted leaving you with a slushy mess.

If you've never been skiing before and you're looking for rental gear, make sure you get a good fit on your boots. To make sure they're not to big or to small (both can be very painful on your feet and toes) try the shell test. Take the liner our of you boot, put you foot in the boot and lean forward in the the tounge of the shell. If your toe just lightly touches the front then you have a good fit. When you try on boats at a rental shop make sure you wear the same socks you will when you ski.

If you're an experienced skier who doesn't want to spend the money to buy your own geeat, but don't want to waste your time with the crappy rentals the Resort has, try demoing skis. Many of the Ski and Board shops on the mountain offer the newest skiis as demos for those interested in purchasing skis and if you don't like the first pair you try you can exchange them throughout the day for different pairs.
